Obituary of George Heafey


MOHAWK:  Mr. George C. Heafey, 90, a long time Mohawk resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 28, 2017 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

Born in Little Falls, NY on December 19, 1927, he was the son of the late George and Jesse (Harrod) Heafey. Raised and educated locally, he attended Little Falls schools. He was a World War II United States Army Veteran. On November 11, 1950, he married Mary Jane Lock in the Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk; the couple sharing 64 years of a loving marriage. Mrs. Heafey passed away on August 5, 2015. George worked for many years with Remington Arms in Ilion as a gun builder and served on the fire brigade at the Arms. George was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; he lived a life dedicated to those he loved. He and Mary Jane loved to travel to the Amish Country in Pennsylvania several times a year and going out to dinner. In his leisure time, George enjoyed woodworking and furniture making.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Russell Roof of Ilion, and Lori and Carmen Tubia of Mohawk; his cherished grandchildren, Mary Schmitt and husband Matt and Benjamin Tubia; great-grandson, Lucas Peter Schmitt and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Mary Jane, and a sister Patricia Kelly and her husband Frank.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, December 31, 2017 from 2 until 4 PM at The Enea and Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, (town of Frankfort) lion, NY. George’s funeral service will take place on Sunday at the conclusion of calling hours, at 4:00 PM at the funeral home with Sr. Mary Jo Tallman officiating. Interment will take place in the Spring of 2018 at Mohawk Village Cemetery, John Street where he will be laid to rest with the honor of full military representation bestowed.
